Job: Post Office façade renovation
Site: Finsbury Park
Details: The Post Office is located on Westbourne Grove and was being developed into shop space with luxury apartments above. The Portland stone was very dirty and many sections of the stonework were damaged beyond repair. We had to clean the faced using a Therma Tech steam cleaning system then cut out and replace many sections of the stonework with newly carved and worked Portland stone and Hydraulic lime repair mortars.
The client did not wish for the façade to look to new and wanted to keep some of the patina on the stone as a mark of heritage so it was decided to not Poultice the stone to try and clean it fully. The new stone was blended with the old and works very well in unison with the hydraulic lime repairs and pointing bringing the building to life.
